What’s the weather like in Kalkan?
Kalkan has a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot, dry summers and mild wet winters. More specifically, for at least four months of the year there is virtually guaranteed sunshine. So if you’re looking for the sun, in summer there’s nowhere better to come. But, be warned, in July and August temperatures can get as high as 40C.
Weather statistics provided by weather websites vary slightly, so I’ve averaged some of the figures out. The following chart provides Kalkan averages for the holiday season. The temperatures are degrees Celsius.
Regarding humidity and the temperature spikes you get in July and August, it’s worth noting that Villa Lukka has a slight advantage that comes from altitude. Situated at 550 metres above sea level, the temperature is always 3 to 4 degrees cooler than down in Kalkan.
So, in general, July and August are best suited for a relaxing, pool-side and sea-side holiday. Long walks, for example, are pretty much out of the question. For anyone looking for an energetic, outdoor activity type holiday, early and late summer are the best times to come.
Having said that, adventure companies in Kas do offer a variety of outdoor activities even in the hottest months: canyoning, mountain biking, sea kayaking, paragliding, and scuba diving. (Click for further information.)
Off season months: Villa Lukka is not generally available for rent November – March. The weather during these months can in fact be delightful with plenty of crisp, clear sunny days. It can also be very dramatic, with hurricane force winds, thunder storms that might be described as ‘nuclear’ rather than merely ‘electric’, and rainfall that is positively monsoonal. And it does get cold – whatever the official description of a Mediterranean climate might say.
